Will KCR & BJP contest for 2019 Loksabha elections together?

Will KCR & BJP contest for 2019 Loksabha elections together?

With Congress routing BJP in Karnataka bypolls, the alternative front led by Chandrababu Naidu seems to have gotten a much needed fillip and confidence. While it is trying to get holds of the four states that will be going for elections, caretaker CM of Telangana K. Chandrasekhar Rao seems to be a worried man!

Going by the history of KCR's political decisions, he has switched sides based on the opportunities and changing political scenarios. He has been ruthless in doing so. For instance, when Telangana was carved out of united Andhra Pradesh, he was extremely close to Sonia and Rahul Gandhi. He even went to the extent of meeting her personally with his family members.

In this election, the equations have changed and the Mahakutami in Telangana has been TRS' main target. With an eye on the Centre and making amends with the Modi government in gaining assistance and funds for Telangana, he has sided with the BJP. However, ground reports in Telangana suggest a different picture. Apparently, the TRS will lose significant majority and is fearing whether the Mahakutami will take over Telangana.

With rapid political developments and TDP allying with Congress nationally, KCR is said to be giving a serious thought to his decision in allying with the BJP. With rumours that KCR had dismissed Assembly on Modi's suggestion doing rounds and Telangana going for elections 6 months before Andhra Pradesh, there is a lot at stake for KCR in Telangana.

Interestingly, KCR's son KT Rama Rao criticised Prime Minister Narendra Modi for unveiling the Statue of Unity without inviting state CMs. On the other hand, KTR also highlighted Centre's discrimination towards South India. In a scenario where several key national leaders have publicly vowed their support for the Alternative Front, KCR will have to think carefully whether he wants to put Telangana in a position where it will not be given any funds or choose to go with the Alternative Front, which is fighting BJP's majoritarian attitude. A clarity will emerge after Telangana elections!
