Hyd to host World's 2nd Big Sitting Statue

On the eve of Saint Ramanujacharya's 1000th birth anniversary, we will be witnessing a massive 216-feet high statue of him at Muchintal village, on the outskirts of Hyderabad. Also, called as the 'Statue of Equality', this massive sculpture of Philosopher Ramanuja will be the second highest sitting statue in the world, standing next to only the Great Buddha, a 302 feet high statue in Thailand.

Costing about Rs 250 crore, which has come in the form of donations, the first phase of the project involving the statue will be ready by November next year, said its CEO S.M. Balasubramanyam. The overall project cost is reportedly estimated at Rs. 1,000 crore and considering the volume of this project, this will apparently be considered as another big feather in Hyderabad's cap.

Crafted by Chinese experts, this statue will be placed on a 54-foot high building, mounting up its height. All the individual parts of the monument will be imported from China within next few days. Masterminded by Sri Chinna Jeeyar Swamy, 700 tons of Panchaloha (gold, silver, lead, copper and iron) will be utilized in shaping up this Ramanuja's statue.
